More Baby Bed Scares: Simplicity Crib Recall As CPSC Discovers Bassinet Danger
According to a Reuters report, the CPSC has been seeking a Simplicity crib recall following the discovery that some of the older Simplicity Bassinets may come with a strangulation hazard hidden in the spacing of the metal bars. Apparently baby furniture retailers such as Wal-Mart, Toys “R” Us, Kmart, Big Lots, Target and J.C. Penney voluntarily agreed to stop selling the Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 Convertible ‘Close Sleeper’ or ‘Bedside Sleeper’ model bassinets.
According to the story, the company hasn’t complied with the Simplicity crib recall request. The manufacturer claims that these particular bassinets were manufactured before the new owner took over.
Just recently there was a massive Jardine crib recall. The Jardine incident luckily didn’t result in serious injuries. Unfortunately, two deaths occurred in the case of the Simplicity bassinets, according to the Reuters report.
It is reassuring to note that the CPSC acts swiftly and decisively when these kinds of incidents come to its attention. Any baby bed scare is frightening for parents. This again highlights the importance of doing thorough research before making decisions about the safety of nursery furniture and decor.
