A recall is always a frightening thing, reminding us of just how vulnerable babies are. Luckily this Jardine Crib recall came before any fatal injuries occurred.

According to a report in Associated Press the voluntary Jardine Enterprises Cribs recall has been announced in a press release by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

In certain models, some of the wooden slats or spindles can break. This results in a gap that could in effect trap a baby’s head. Apparently 42 such incidents have been reported, with slight injuries to four babies. A wide-spread Jardine Crib recall was inevitable.

The Jardine Enterprises toddler beds measure 54.51″(L) x 30″(W) x 28″(H). If a baby and a tot will be sharing a room, you can opt for the Cherry Madison Lifetime Crib for example, and complement this item with a Cherry Madison bed. To increase the storage space, you can add the nightstand. This will provide room for a night light and some books. Some of the changing tables can be used as dressers later on. If you don’t like the cherry finish, choose white or pecan. Toy boxes can also be a great help if you want to keep things organized.

Before we go any further, it is a good idea to remember that this is a budget range. Don’t expect it to hold up as well as Bellini baby furniture or a Bonavita Cabana crib. The finishes on the Jardine Enterprises furniture can be vulnerable to scratching and chipping. However, if handled with care, they should be fine. Never use abrasive cleaners on these pieces. This is a value-for-money collection that remains popular, but they won’t necessarily become heirlooms.

Another good point to keep in mind is that you may find it difficult to get a conversion kit at a later stage. So, if you will need to change the crib into a toddler bed, rather buy the necessary parts when you purchase the crib.

The conversion is fairly easy. Some parents complain that the guard rails are too short and not high enough to offer adequate protection. Add some peace of mind by placing big, soft cushions on the floor, giving your kid a soft place to fall in case of a mishap. In spite of this, reviews are generally positive. The lines of most of the Jardine Enterprises beds and cribs are gently sloping, without sharp corners. The designs are quite attractive.

Ease the transition from a Jardine Enterprises crib to a toddler bed, by making a big production of how they are going to enjoy curling up on their ‘big’ bed with a book, or how the bed will have enough room for a visit with friends. Make sure you also have one of the Jardine gliders for cuddle times.
